Fort McAllister

Fort McAllister Historic Park in Richmond Hill will hold a Labor Day weekend program from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1. There will be demonstrations of blacksmithing, woodworking and black powder cannon firings. Visitors can take part in Civil War games and enjoy a cool slice of melon. The cost is $4 for adults and $2.50 for children. Call 727-2339 for more information.

 

American Legion

The American Legion Post 164 and Ladies Auxiliary meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The post is located on U.S. Highway 280 West of Pembroke. All veterans are welcome.

 

Book signing

Sensational Minds, an African American Bookstore in Savannah, will hold a book-signing event on Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 6-8 p.m. Author Cathy Middleton, a family law attorney with a specialty in child support matters will present her book, "Girl, Get That Child Support" to the Savannah and Lowcountry community.

 

Blood drive

The Annual American Red Cross Blood Drive is being held at Coastal Electric Cooperative located at 1265 S. Coastal Hwy Midway in the John T. Woods, Jr. Auditorium on Aug. 30 from 2-7 p.m. If you have any questions or concerns call Kim at 880-2236.

 

Historical society

On Sept. 6 the Richmond Hill Historical Society will present James Jordan, author and local historian. Jordan will be discussing "Classicism in Georgian Architecture: How It Got From Ancient Greece and Rome to Savannah." The meeting begins at 7 p.m.. This event will take place at the Wetlands Center in Richmond Hill. If you have any questions call the Richmond Hill Museum at 756-3697 or 756-2676. All of the club's meetings and lecture series is open to the public and free.

 

Library book sale

Pembroke Library’s annual book sale is just around the corner. The kids are back in school and it’s time to clean out the closets, etc. Please think about donating all your old, but in good condition, books to the Pembroke Library for their annual book sale. The book sale will be held on Friday, Sept. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. until the library closes. For more information call Marsha Clark at 653-4958.

 

Grief support group

A grief support meeting for those who have lost a child, grandchild, or sibling is now forming in Pembroke. Meetings will be held the second Tuesday of each month. For more information, please call Gayle Sharpe at 653-2876.

 

American Legion

Richmond Hill American Legion Post 27 now meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Chamber of Commerce across from Blocker's Barber Shop. The executive board meets at 6 p.m. and the regular meeting gets under way at 7 p.m.
