American Legion Auxiliary conductng Memorial Day program today

Memorial Day

The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a Memorial Day Program along with the assistance from Boy Scout Troop 357 and the American Legion Post 164. The program will begin at noon near the caboose Saturday, May 31 in Pembroke. Following the program, food will be served. Everyone is invited to attend. Honoring grads

Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church invites the public to share in the graduation service and celebration of its high school and college graduates. The celebration will take place on Sunday, June 1 at the noon worship service with lunch immediately following. Mount Moriah is located at 185 Poplar Street in Pembroke. Board of Health

The Bryan County Board of Health will meet June 3 at 10 a.m. in the Bryan County Health Department conference room in Pembroke.

 

Ellabell UMC VBS

Ellabell United Methodist Church, located at 3079 Highway 204 will host a Vacation Bible School on June 2-6 from 6-8:30 p.m. The theme for the week will be Fully Rely On God. Classes will be held for ages 4-99. Crafts, music and Bible study will be enjoyed by all. Every child needs to bring a white t-shirt to make a VBS-theme shirt during a craft session. An evening meal will be served.

Public meeting

The city of Richmond Hill will hold a public hearing June 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Richmond Hill City Hall council chambers to obtain public input on the comprehensive land use plan update. For information contact Steve Scholar at 756-3851.

 

Moving Wall

The Moving Wall group has several upcoming meetings scheduled. If you are interested in finding out more or becoming a volunteer to help out, please feel free to attend or contact Jan Bass at jbass@coastalnow.net.

The next meeting is Tuesday, June 3 at 2 p.m. in City Council chambers.

There are four different days for volunteers to participate in orientation – they are only required to attend one of the four dates. All meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce office and will not exceed one hour. Wednesday, June 4; Thursday, June 5; Saturday, June 7 and Monday, June 9.

 

VBS

The Bryan Neck Missionary Baptist Church is inviting everyone to their Vacation Bible School, June 9-13 from 6-9 p.m., with refreshments afterwards. Call 756-2412 or 756-5885 for more information.

 

Undersea adventure

Coastal Community Christian Church will kick off the summer on Saturday, June 7, with an Undersea Family Adventure. There will be Bible stories, crafts, games, snacks and inflatables from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church. Children aged 4 through fifth grade, along with their parents, are invited to this free event.

Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration is not required but it is encouraged. Families may register by calling 756-3455.

 

Magnolia Manor

Magnolia Manor on the Coast will host David McKay of Government Benefits Analysts, Inc. of Savannah. He will speak on qualifying for VA benefits. The event is slated for June 10 at 3:30 p.m and will be at Magnolia Manor on the Coast on the 2nd floor and refreshments will be served. Although open to the public, guests are asked to RSVP to Julie Gartside at 756-4300.

 

Ranger Camp

Ft. McAllister’s Junior Ranger Camp, for children ages 8–12, will be June 23-27 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Junior Rangers will experience nature first-hand, exploring Georgia’s fascinating history while enjoying outdoor recreational activities, such as hiking Fort McAllister’s scenic trails as part of the GO (Get Outdoors) Georgia program. Cost is $50, call 727-2339 for more information.

 

Historical lecture

On Thursday, June 5 at 7 p.m., best selling author, William C. Harris, Jr. will be speaking at the Richmond Hill Museum. Harris, a native of Savannah, draws on his experiences and local knowledge to weave tales of intrigue and suspense based on local history. He has just completed his third book, which uses the well known Tybee Bomb incident and a hurricane as its theme. A book signing will take place after the lecture.

The meeting is free and open to the general public.

Down on the Farm

Pembroke Assembly of God invites everyone to join them for some "Down on the Farm" fun as they learn how to grow the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives.

Each evening, June 16-20, from 6:30-9 p.m., there will be a Bible lesson, music, crafts, games, snacks and a "Down on the Farm" activity.

Reading club

Join the Summer Reading Club at the Richmond Hill Library on Ford Avenue.

Signups began in May for the club, which is designed for children ages 2-17. Each participant will receive a reading log to keep track of their reading and can earn prizes while "Catching the Reading Bug."

Catch the Reading Bug events will be held at the Richmond Hill High School on Wednesdays at 2 p.m., with programs for all ages. The June events include Sean Driscoll, Sail on the Storyship; Donna Washington, Folktales and Fairytales; Bob Linsmayer, Singing Storyteller; Ron Anglin, Quite a Catch; and Chad Crews, Truly Magical.

Sponsors of the Summer Reading Programs and Club are the Board of Education, the Bryan County Library Board, Family Connection, Friends of the Richmond Hill Library, Georgia Public Library Service and Grassroots Arts Program.

 

 

CSI camp

CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) Camp will be available in Savannah this summer for rising 5th through rising 9th grade students. The camp runs from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. daily from the weeks of June 9-13 and June 16-20 at the Savannah Country Day School. There are limited slots available.

During the camp, kids will make shoe casts, identify blood types and patterns, and learn how to solve crimes with real police officers and the chief medical examiner for Chatham County. For information on all summer camps, see their website at www.savcds.org, select "School Life," then select "After School & Summer."

Boating course

On June 21, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be offering a boating safety class. The class will be from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. with an hour for lunch. To attend, call the Demeries Creek office to sign up at 727-2111.

 

Sand Hill VBS

Vacation Bible School at Sand Hill Baptist Church, 1931 Sand Hill Road, is June 22-27 from 6:05-8:30 p.m. The entire family can enjoy Bible stories, crafts, music, snacks and games, from the age of 4 to adults. A nursery is provided for children of adults attending VBS.

Teen driving forms

As summer approaches, the Department of Driver Services (DDS) reminds students needing to test for an instructional permit or driver’s license over the long vacation to obtain a "DDS Certificate of Attendance Form" from their school administration before the end of the school year.

DDS Certificate of Attendance Forms must be signed and notarized from the student’s school and presented at the time of applying for a permit or Class D driver’s license. The forms issued in May will be accepted until September 30.

All applicants under the age of 18 not enrolled in school must provide a GED diploma, high school diploma, or an attendance form from the student’s local Board of Education if enrolled in an approved home school program.

The Georgia Coastal Management Program’s Coastal Advisory Council’s spring quarterly meeting will be Wednesday, June 4, from 10 a.m. until noon at the conference room of the Coastal EMC in Midway, on Hwy. 17 (off exit 76, west of I-95). Power Lab

Girl Scouts is recruiting adult volunteers to help today’s girls become tomorrow’s leaders.
