The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society recently announced plans for the 10th annual Buddy Walk to be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, in Forsyth Park in Savannah.

Last year’s 1-mile awareness walk welcomed more than 5,000 participants. All proceeds raised will continue to be used to support LDSS’ programs such as Camp Buddy and Night of Champions.

The Buddy Walk is open to all ages and abilities — even the family pet. The goals of this annual event are to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to positively influence local and national policy and practice.

Immediately following the walk, the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society will hold a Family Fun Festival in the park until 2 p.m. Activities include face painting, pumpkin painting, princess and pirate booths, bounce houses, games, music and refreshments.

Online registration is available at www.ldssga.org until 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. Participants can also sign up starting at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event. Registration is $15 per person or $50 for a family of four, which includes a T-shirt, lunch and admission to the festival.
