Twenty-four members of Long County High School’s Future Business Leaders of America club recently attended a fall motivational rally in Perry.
The rally, themed “Georgia FBLA transforming tomorrow,” included workshops and projects such as “helping tomorrow’s future business leaders” and “benefitting the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation.”
LCHS advisor Pamela Smith said the activities were designed to develop students’ personal and leadership skills.
More than 5,000 participants attended the statewide rally, which was the first scheduled FBLA event of the year. Long County students are encouraged to take part in the rally, Smith said, which will help the high school chapter accomplish its goal of being named the best in the state. The group also hopes to be named 2010-11 chapter of the year.
Dalton Long, a student who attended the rally said, “I learned a lot about being a leader from the motivational speaker, and I also enjoyed networking, learning more about the purpose of the FBLA, and I had a good time while doing so.”
Smith said she was happy to accompany the student to Perry. “I really enjoyed taking the students to the motivational rally because it allows them to get a view of what FBLA is and its purpose … at the same time, it motivates students to want to participate in various competitive events as well as motivating them to perhaps run for an FBLA state officer position,” she said. “If any student has the potential to become a leader in the business world, I feel that FBLA will give them the start that they need.”
The Rev. William Miller also chaperoned the trip to Perry.
FBLA is the largest and oldest business and student organization in the world. The club has more than 250,000 student members. FBLA provides tools and knowledge students need to become industry leaders.
