I talked to Lauren Hall concerning the girls cross country team recently going to state. Lauren, as one of the few seniors on the team, was a major leader in this year’s extremely successful season.
Q: How long have you been running for the cross country team?
A: Since I was a freshman.
Q: How many other seniors are on the team?
A: One other senior is Azea Mustafa.
Q: What are your thoughts on this season compared to others?
A: Well, the past two years we’ve won the region championship at Ebenezer, but this year we won runner up to St. Vincent’s.
Q: How do you feel about competing at state this year?
A: State was a lot of fun. It’s definitely a harder course - there’s a lot more hills - but overall we placed 16th, which is towards the better half of the entire competition, so we thought that we had a pretty acceptable performance.
Q: Who really shined this season, in your opinion?
A: Lindsey Vasher, Caitlyn Uhlig, and Jenny Russel, who are freshmen and who usually finished one, two and three. We also had Katie Berry, Anna Buasum, Azea Mustafa, and myself that compiled the top seven to run at regions.
Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring runners?
A: Running is mostly a mental sport, and if you can get past the mental obstacles anyone can run cross country.
