On Tuesday, the Richmond Hill Wildcats (10-11, 5-5, 4th place in region #1-6A) took game 1 of another important 3-game region series., 9-8, against the Camden County Wildcats (5-17, 1-9, 6th place in region #1-6A).
The home team outhit the visitors 10-8, scoring 4 runs in the 2nd inning and 5 in the 4th to win that important game 1.
Joey Succi, Gage Witham, and Shane Tucker each had 2 hits. Succi and Senior catcher Bryce Smith both drove in 2 runs a piece, and Tucker and Grant Wagner each scored 2 runs a piece. One of Tucker’s hits was a double and he also added 2 stolen bases.
The visitors scored 1 run in the 1st inning, 5 in the 6th inning, and 2 in the top the 7th inning to make it too close. Parker Riendeau and Gavyn Nelson each had 2 hits for Camden. Richmond Hill used 6 pitchers, with David Willis coming in in the 2nd inning, pitching 4 shut-out innings, on 45 pitches, allowing just 3 hits, and striking out 2. Richmond Hill committed 4 errors and Camden committed 2.
Richmond Hill travels to Kingsland, Ga. to play Camden County Friday for a doubleheader with 1st pitch set for 4:30.
Next, on Tuesday, 3/31, Richmond Hill travels to Moultrie, Ga., at Norman Park, to take on region opponent, the Colquitt County Packers, with 1st pitch set for 5:30. The Packers are currently in 2nd place in the region.
In the GHSA, the top 4 teams from each region qualify for the State Playoffs, with the #1 and #2 seed from each region hosting the 1st and 2nd round of the State playoffs. Then the region schedule ends Friday, 4/3, with a home doubleheader with Colquitt County. First pitch is at 4:30. The following 2-weeks Richmond Hill’s schedule consist of 3 non-region opponent powerhouses (South Effingham HS, McIntosh HS, Etowah HS) in preparation for the GHSA State Playoffs, which begin 4/24 and 4/25.
