The Richmond Hill Wildcats’ track and field team has sent another athlete to the collegiate level. Senior Selah Moore will be signing her college Letter of Intent to play at nearby USCB, the University of South Carolina Beaufort, in Beaufort, South Carolina.
Moore looks to play a pivotal part in helping strengthen the Sand Sharks’ track and field program. She was first offered by the program back on May 23, just after receiving her high school diploma from Richmond Hill High School.
“The process was amazing,” Moore said. “I took a chance by emailing the school thinking they weren’t going to get back to me. It was wild! No more than five minutes later I received a text back that they were interested in me.”
Several things stood out to Moore about the possibility of competing for the Sand Sharks, and those factors were enough for her to decide to commit to the program.
“I love how it’s close to the beach,” Moore said. “I also love the academic and athletic side of things that the college provides as well, with my major being in psychology.”
While Moore did different things for Richmond Hill’s track and field program, she has already been told what to expect to participate in for the Sand Sharks.
“I will be running hurdles as my main event,” Moore said. “They will also put me into events as they see fit or if they need it.”
But Moore does not want to just compete in college; she also has dreams of going further.
“I want to go and participate in the Olympics someday,” Moore said. “I want to be seen as one of the greats in the sport someday.”
Moore will make the short trip to Beaufort in just a few weeks as one of their newest members of their track and field program. Classes begin on August 19.
