Richmond Hill High School made short work of Ola on Tuesday in the first round of the girls’ Class AAAAA soccer tournament.
The host Lady Wildcats (19-0) scored early and often in their 7-1 win behind three goals each from Sh’Nia Gordon and Grace Kiser and one from Anna Petrino.
Erin Gillooly had two assists while Jasmine Marquez, Casey Qua, Logan Martin and Hailey Rey added an assist each. Goalkeeper Maria Cuevas had five saves.
RHHS, which is ranked No. 7 in the current Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class AAAAA poll, moves on to play the winner of a match between M.L. King and Allatoona. That game is set for Tuesday at RHHS.

Northgate
Tenth-ranked Richmond Hill High School’s 8-0 win over Camden County on Friday snagged the Wildcat baseball program its second Region 3-AAAAA title in three years.
The victory also ensured that RHHS (18-5) will play a first-round state-tournament game at home starting Friday, when the Wildcats host Northgate in a best-of-three series.

Hammesfahr, Hicks win region titles
Rachel Hammesfahr won the Region 3-AAAAA title in the girls’ 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs, and Tanner Hicks won the boys’ 3,200 title during the region meet Friday at Ware Count.
Hammesfahr’s time in the 1,600 was 5 minutes, 38.04 seconds. She narrowly beat out teammate Daryn Lane, who placed second with a time of 5:40.40. Hammesfahr finished the 3,200 with a 12:32.22.
Hicks grabbed the 3,200 crown with a time of 10:20.6. He placed third in the 1,600 with a 4:48.12, edging teammate Rakeem Littles, who was fourth with a 3:49.91.  Other top RHHS finishers for RHHS:

Catching up
Former Bryan County High School softball outfielder Sierra Newman hit .395 in 39 games for Armstrong State (30-14) this spring. Newman, a junior, is in her first season playing for the Pirates.
Former RHHS pitcher Slade Walker is 3-3 with a 2.74 ERA for East Georgia College (13-30).
