Richmond Hill Soccer Club recently named Charlie Morgan as its new executive director.

In this role, Morgan will oversee the club’s day-to-day operations and serve as the managerial lead for the organization.

His fresh approach to supporting the club’s mission and strategic plan will create new opportunities for the players and coaches. “We are excited for Charlie to get started, as his 28 years of coaching experience is second to none,” said Board of Directors President Eric Turner. “Club growth in the last few years has been tremendous and Charlie is the best candidate to take us into the next phase of player and club development.”

The hiring of Morgan capped off a month-long search that included two rounds of interviews and a slate of candidates. The RHSC Board of Directors were impressed with Morgan throughout the process and voted unanimously to bring him to Richmond Hill. Morgan is no stranger to this part of the state. In 2004, he was athletic director and head of soccer at the Frederica Academy on Saint Simons Island. During his seven-year tenure, he amassed five Boys Varsity State Championships, two Boys Varsity State Runner-up trophies, six Girls Varsity State Championships and one Girls Varsity Runner- up trophy. The school was awarded the GISA Athletic Award for Excellence twice under his leadership.

Although Morgan’s coaching opportunities have spanned across numerous clubs in Atlanta, Savannah and North Carolina, he said he is ready to immerse himself into the southeastern region of the state again.

“I’ve coached in many different parts of Georgia. It’s time to settle down in Richmond Hill and continue the great work that is already here, moving the club in a positive direction,” Morgan said.

Morgan has been successful not only at coaching, but as a player and manager, too. His long playing career led him to a National Championship with Clemson University in 1984, representation of the United States at the World University Games in 1985, and seven years of professional playing.

As a professional manager, he had the privilege of overseeing the operations of the Atlanta Ruckus, the Richmond Kickers and the Hampton Roads Mariners.

In 2018, in celebration of the Georgia Youth Soccer Association’s 50th Anniversary, Morgan was one of only three coaches named to both the Top 50 Coaches of All Time and the Top 50 Players of All Time in Georgia.

He holds a USSF “A” License, NSCAA Premier Diploma, Pass with Distinction (top 5%) and the USSF National Youth License. He is a coaching instructor for the USSF and Georgia Youth Soccer Association. He has been involved with the Olympic Development Program (ODP) since 1999 and currently coaches the Georgia 06 Boys State Team, the South Region 05 Boys Team and the 05 Boys National Team.

The Richmond Hill Soccer Club operates as a 509(a)2 charity and 501(c)3 nonprofit and is dedicated to their mission to push each player to reach their highest level of potential within the sport of soccer while providing the best possible experience. The club provides Recreation (U6-U14), Junior Academy (U7-U9), Academy (U10-U12), Select (U13-U19) and Adult (Fall 2020) soccer programs, as well as numerous camps, clinics, and festivals throughout the year.
