McElroy takes high point honors at region

The Redskin track teams were in action April 18 and April 20 at the Region 3A Track Meet, hosted by Southeast Bulloch. The boys finished in 3rd place behind Jenkins Co. and Claxton. The girls team finished in 6th place. Seven competitors advanced to state.

D.J. McElroy was awarded the "High Point Award," given to the individual athlete that earned the most points for his team. DJ won all 3 of his individual events, the long jump, triple jump and 110 meter high hurdles, and also ran on the runner-up 4x100 meter relay team and 3rd place 4x400 meter relay team.

McElroy will be competing in the long Jump, triple jump, and 110 meter high hurdles at the state meet in Jefferson, GA on May 10-12.

He will also compete in the 4x400 Meter Relay with his teammates Alkeem Collins, Willie Deloach, and Ivey Mutcherson. Winston Johnson is the alternate on the team. Joining them in Jefferson will be William West, who finished second in the 3200 meter run, and Taylor Lucas, who won the shot put competition.

The girls were led by strong performances from Paige Starling and Rebecca Horton.
