Wildcats win Savannah Classic

Richmond Hill is making a habit of winning the Savannah Holiday Classic.
The Wildcats (8-3) knocked off Windsor Forest on Monday, 52-45 at Johnson High to wrap up the Washington Square bracket and end a 3-0 run through the tourney.
Saturday, the Wildcats handed Groves a 67-64 loss to advance to the finals.
Richmond Hill opened the tournament on Friday with a 51-43 win over Beach.
The Bulldogs came out in an aggressive man but the Wildcats scored the first four points of the game and controlled the momentum and tempo for the rest of the half.
"We had scouted Beach and knew that they may show a man and then move into a zone if the man was unsuccessful so we were prepared for that. We are also prepared for their press and adjusted our press breaker for it," Richmond Hill Head Coach William Altman said.
Late in the second quarter guard Spencer Buck hit a pair of three pointers putting the Wildcats up 24-10. Beach got some easy baskets in the final minutes of the first half of errant ball handling from Richmond Hill ball handling.
Ball control was a major issue for the Wildcats the rest of the game allowing Beach to make it a closer game in the second half.
"We have to do a better job of handling the basketball. Towards the end of the second quarter we made some ball handling mistakes and allowed them to go on a 6 point run. We had 25 turnovers and when you turn the ball over hat many times it can be hard to win," Altman said.
But the Wildcats built off their success in the final minutes of the first half, then used the momentum from the Beach to knock off Groves, then Windsor Forest.
Notes; Buck had a team-high 14 points against Beach and added a 19-point performance against Groves. He and gaurd J.J. Frnaklin finished with 12 each to lead the Wildcats to the title game win over Windsor Forest.
