Walker qualifies for NCAA track championships

Richmond Hill graduate Shaquille Walker ran the second-fastest qualifying time in the 800-meters today at the NCAA Track & Field West Preliminaries, advancing to the outdoor championships next month in Eugene, Ore. Walker won his heat in 1:48.07.

Walker, of BYU, broke his own school record in the 800 in April, running a 1:44.99. He finished fifth at the NCAA outdoor championships last year and also won a gold medal at the World University Games.

All-Region picks for spring sports announced
RHHS Wildcats

Richmond Hill placed several players on their respective All-Region teams in Region 2-AAAAAA for tennis and soccer after all four teams made it to their respective state tournaments this spring.

In girls’ soccer, first-team selections were Grace Kiser, Ruthie Riley, Carly Vargas and Ellie Filamonczuk. Honorable mention went to Bella Martinez. Arianna Page and Lexi Merry.

For boys’ soccer, Joseph Petrino, Agboade Sobowale, Roman Alvarez, Trever Blitchington and Cristian Marquez made first team.

For girls’ tennis, Hannah Yontz, Megan Bausch and Stephanie Harter all made the second team at singles, as did the doubles team of Bailey Lopata and Caren Bausch.

For the boys, Jackson Martin was first team singles and Alec Shermer was second team singles. Zach Sewell received honorable mention.
