Lady Redskins win 3-A title

Bryan County High School won the Region 3-A softball title on Tuesday, knocking off Calvary Day 9-2 in the title game at Georgia Southern University.
Tiffany Howard picked up the win for the No. 3-ranked Lady Redskins (26-7), scattering two hits over seven innings while striking out nine.
Taylor Butler led the Lady Redskins at the plate, going 3 for 4 and driving in four runs. Rebecca Strickland drove in a pair of runs and finished 2 for 4 while Howard was 2 for 3 with one RBI.
Jerri Hines and McKenzie Covington each had one hit and an RBI and Jenna Schuman had a hit for the Lady Redskins, who earlier in the day beat Johnson 4-0 in the semifinals.
Howard was dominant on the mound for Bryan County, striking out 17 and walking only one to pick up both a win and a no-hitter.
Howard also had three hits for BCHS. Hines and Jenna Shuman were 2 for 3 while Strickland and Sierra Newman had a hit and an RBI apiece. Butler also drove in a run.
The Lady Redskins will be a No. 1 seed in the state tourney, which begins Oct. 12.
