The Richmond Hill and Bryan County softball teams opened their respective 2017 campaigns with impressive wins.

The Redskins exploded for seven runs — including a grand slam by freshman Alisha Fabin — in the first inning en route to an 8-6 win over McIntosh County Academy. Fabin went two-for-three in the game as Shelby Barfield struck out 10 and picked up the win on the mound.

The Wildcats, meanwhile, beat South Effingham 2-1 in their last at-bats after Adriana Garrett got hit by a pitch and scored on an RBI single by Hannah Fitzgerald. Richmond Hill scored its first run in the fifth inning when Maddie Gorsuch drove in Katie Snyder.
