The Bryan County High School Lady Redskins are still alive in the Region 3A Elite Eight tournament in Columbus.

The No. 7-ranked Lady Redskins (29-8) beat Johnson County 9-2 in a loser's bracket game this morning. Taylor Stanfield had two hits and Tiffany Howard had a double and home run for BCHS, which plays Strong Rock Christian early this afternoon.

Bryan County fell into the loser's bracket after dropping a 6-0 contest to No. 1-ranked Gordon Lee. The difference between that game and this morning/s contest was putting the ball into play, Howard said.

"We bunted people around really well," she said. "When we got on we moved runners, put the ball into play and made them create errors. We didn't do that yesterday."

Center fielder Sierra Newman stood out defensively against Johnson County. "She just did a great job in center field," coach Al Butler said, noting that his entire roster got playing time. "They got some Columbus experience."

If the Lady Redskins beat Strong Rock, they'll play again at 5 p.m. A win in that contest would put them a game away from the finals.

If they lose, their season is over.

"It's going to be a long day, but we've just got to take it one game at a time," Howard said.

The Lady Redskins beat Strong Rock 7-6 earlier this season in an extra inning contest.
