Boys’ Lacrosse: Wildcats defeat Warriors in home match
With more experience under their belt, head coach Tom Corbin's team defeated the visitors 16-2.

On Friday, the Richmond Hill boys’ lacrosse team hosted the Grovetown High Warriors at Duval Henderson Recreation Park, and cruised to a convincing 16-2 win.

“They are a much younger team than we are,” head coach Tom Corbin said. “We have a deep team with twelve seniors and a lot of juniors, so that allowed us to be a bit more skilled than them, because we have a much older roster.”

That skill showed early and often, as the Wildcats did not waste time putting points on the board. After the first quarter, the Wildcats would hold a 6-1 lead over the visiting Warriors.

“We struggled the last two weeks, but we were able to put some things together tonight,” Corbin said. “Tonight, the offense seemed to move much better than it had in recent weeks.”

That offense was able to produce seven points in the second, as the Wildcats would go on a 7-0 run in the quarter, eventually taking a 13-1 lead into the halftime break before getting some younger players some playing time.

“We were able to get the young guys in there for most of the second half,” Corbin said. “Our ninth and tenth graders were able to get in and get some game experience to help us close out the win.”

Before the starters came out, Brayden and Joshua Auclair, both seniors, as well as Mathias Clark, a junior, were all said to be the standout players of the game for the Wildcats. The younger group would outscore the Warriors 3-1 in the second half, to close out the 16-2 win.

“I think we did a much better job of running the offense and getting everyone in place,” Corbin said. “Everyone has an opportunity when we do that. We also know where to exploit opposing teams when we have everything going the right way.”

The Wildcats sit at (2-0) in the region, and will have three region games left in the season. Richmond Hill (5-3) will travel to Calvary Day (3-5) to take on the Cavaliers in non-region play. Game time is at 7pm.
