BCHS track team wins two firsts

The Bryan County High School track team fared well during competition this week. Both the BCHS boys and girls took first place overall during home meets on Tuesday and Thursday.
On Tuesday, BCHS defeated South Effingham and Savannah Christian.
Taking first place in girls’ events were: Sierra Newman (long jump, 100 meter race, 200), Tiffany Howard (triple jump, 1600, 800), Kimberly Williams (high jump, 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles), Samantha Howard (400), 4x100 Relay (Bridget Bacon, Newman, Williams, Tiffany Howard) and 4x400 Relay (Bacon, Sam Howard, Williams, Tiffany Howard).
Taking first place in boys’ events were: Willie Deloach (long jump, triple jump), Kell Johnson (high jump), Mitch Marsh (shot put, discus), Trent Minis (1600), Winston Johnson (400) and 4x100 Relay (Joseph Jenkins, Alex Cruz, Johnson, Deloach).
On Thursday, both BCHS teams defeated Portal.
Taking first place in girls’ events were: Bacon (long jump, 100, 200), Tiffany Howard (triple jump, 1600, 800), Williams (high jump, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Ashleigh Simmons (shot put), Courtney Moore (discus), Rachel Anderson (3200), Samantha Howard (400), 4x100 Relay (Bacon, Newman, Williams, Tiffany Howard) and 4x400 Relay (Bacon, Sam Howard, Williams, Tiffany Howard).
Taking first place in boys’ events were: Deloach (long jump, triple jump), Kell Johnson (high jump), Marsh (shot put), Cody Morris (discus), Andre Anderson (3200), Minis (1600, 800), Johnson (400, 200), 4x100 Relay (Jenkins, Cruz, Johnson, Deloach) and 4x400 Relay (Albert Chavis, Johnson, Deloach, Cruz).
In addition to the wins, the following athletes broke their own school records this week:Tiffany Howard in the 1600m with a new record of 6:01; Kimberly Williams in the 300m Hurdles with a new record of 52.87; Willie Deloach in the 100m with a new record of 10.86.
The Redskin track team will be back in action Friday, March 26, 5 p.m. at home for the Second Annual Pembroke Telephone Redskin Relays Invitational. BCHS Coach Blake Nesmith encourages everyone to attend and support the Redskins.
