Letter to the editor: Biden should toot own horn
LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor:

(Rich) Lowry keeps referring to Biden’s “failed presidency”. However, at the end of Joe Biden’s first year in office unemployment was down from 6.4% to 3.6%, 6.6 million jobs created (best ever), and inflation at 8%. As you would expect, the right took the only negative and ran with it for the last 17 months. Right wing politicians, pundits, and media are constantly telling you how BAD everything is. Even as inflation goes down, jobs numbers continued to soar, and unemployment stays below 4%, the message never changes.

Contrast this with Trump’s record and it is amazing how anyone would think he did a better job, especially with the economy. He took office with unemployment at 4.5% and dropping fast, he left with 6.4%. Jobs were the biggest disappointment, as Trump was the first president since Herbert Hoover to leave office with fewer jobs than when he started (3 million less).

In under 3.5 years, President Biden has created over 15 million jobs--many coming from programs Democrats passed to reshore manufacturing jobs.

Biden’s real problem is that he does not toot his own horn. By the time he, and other key Democrats finally did, it was too late. Republicans had put this message out long and loud enough to convince people everything was bad, echoing the adage that if you tell a lie long enough it becomes the truth. If Trump had done anywhere near as well, they would already be chiseling his image on Mt. Rushmore. There was a failed presidency recently, but it isn’t Joe Biden.

There’s something about the Fourth of July that makes us all kids again. The fireworks, the cookouts, the watermelon juice running down your arm—it’s pure Americana. And yes, for many of us, that includes a hot dog sizzling on the grill.
