In Proverbs 12:22 the author shares how the Lord feels about His creation being honest. It states, “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy”.
We have so many opportunities to live out this character trait of honesty. We also need to realize that there are people watching us; as parents you had better believe that your children are watching.
The other day I was at a fast-food restaurant waiting for my food when I overheard a lady tell the worker that something was wrong with a sandwich she had picked up earlier. The worker told her that they would make her another one. She then asked for a free water cup of which they gave her one. I wouldn’t have noticed it if I had not been going over to get a drink filled that I had paid for, but instead of getting water she filled the cup up with soda.
Then I wondered if she ever paid for the sandwich she claimed they messed up, because they never asked for a receipt.
Some may think, what’s the big deal, it’s just a dollar and a half soft drink? The problem is, little things lead to bigger things such as cheating on one’s taxes or shoplifting. The same principle applies to those who go up to a house and steal all of the Halloween candy. If they would do this, what else would they steal?
The biggest issue here is that dishonesty displeases our heavenly Father, who will reward the honest and judge the dishonest. May we understand that the Lord is watching and there are consequences for every decision we make.
