Fort Stewart officials say a Bradley fighting vehicle on a training exercise rolled over into water around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, killing three soldiers and sending three more to the hospital.

All the soldiers were part of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team involved in an early morning training accident Sunday on Fort Stewart, according to Army officials.

Of the survivors, two have been treated at Winn Army Community Hospital and released, while a third is now at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

The accident is under investigation.

 “Today is a heartbreaking day for the 3rd Infantry Division, and the entire Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield community, as we are all devastated after a training accident this morning on the Fort Stewart Training Area,” said Maj. Gen. Tony Aguto, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division. “We are extremely saddened by the loss of three Dogface Soldiers, and injuries to three more. Our hearts and prayers go out to all the families affected by this tragedy."

 The incident is currently under investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available, the Army said.

“Names of the soldiers involved will be released 24 hours after we have completed the next-ofkin-notification process,” according to a press release from Fort Stewart officials. “The entire 3ID extends its deepest condolences to the families of the soldiers involved in this incident.”
