According to authorities, 22-month-old Abigail "Abby" Warner was playing with her three brothers at their home on Steeple Chase Road in Richmond Hill late Saturday afternoon when she wandered off and fell into the pond behind the family home.

Police say the Warner family nanny found the young girl, and the father administered CPR. CPR was again administered while she was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s.

The coroner declared the child deceased at 6:45 p.m. that evening.

According to Bryan County Sheriff’s Department Det. Donnie Thomas, Abby’s father, Chris Warner, was doing some work on his front door while four of his five children were playing around the front porch. Abby’s mother and the fourth brother were not home.

Thomas said Chris Warner called out to his kids to come inside and the boys did not know where Abby was.

Warner searched the front of the home while calling out to the family nanny to search the back.

According to Thomas, the nanny discovered Abby in the pond, picked her up and ran toward the home. Warner, a first responder and EMS tried to revive Abigail via CPR.

Thomas said both parents are military doctors. He also said the Warners had wanted to have a daughter and finally did after having four sons.

"This is a tragedy," Thomas said. "My heart goes out to the family. This was not an easy case to work. It’s just so very sad."
