Strong storms expected to impact Bryan County
NWS warns of lightning, heavy rains

Hurricane Humbarto surprised Texas when it struck as a tropical storm in the early morning Thursday, but Bryan County has some of its own storm action going on this afternoon, too. According to a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service in Charleston, S.C., the coastal counties are in for continued heavy rains through the remainder of the day. “Strong thunderstorms will impact Bryan County and Liberty County,” with half-inch hail stones possible in some areas, the NWS said. Winds are estimated to be 35 to 45 m.p.h. Widespread showers and/or thunderstorms will continue through 5:30 p.m. Rain could continue falling at two inches per hour, possibly flooding roads, ditches, and low-lying areas with poor drainage. Visibility could be reduced to a quarter of a mile, with frequent lightening, NWS said.
