RINCON - A 34-year-old Chatham County corrections officer has been fired after he was charged with child molestation Monday.

Rincon police arrested James Jackson Brown at a local home. Rincon police Chief Mike Bohannon says the arrest followed an ongoing investigation.

Brown, an officer at the Chatham County Sheriff's Department, is charged with three counts of child molestation, three counts of second-degree cruelty to children, one count of sexual battery and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Authorities say Brown had been employed by the sheriff's office in Chatham County since October and was still on probation as a new hire.

The Associated Press could not find a phone number for Brown Monday.
