SPRINGFIELD - A Georgia jury has convicted an Effingham County man of murder for the 2008 shotgun slayings of his father and brother.
Jurors deliberated about six hours before finding 42-year-old Craig Heidt guilty Thursday evening. The judge said he would sentence Heidt later.
Prosecutors say Heidt killed his father, real estate developer Philip Heidt, and his brother, Carey Heidt, in a family feud over the defendant's affair with his slain brother's wife.
Heidt was also convicted of aggravated battery for shooting his mother in the face. She survived, but could not identify her attacker.
Heidt's defense attorney insisted his client was innocent and argued police based their case on gossip rather than hard evidence.
