Rezoning sought

Developer Johnny Murphy of Bryan Land and Timber recently requested a rezoning for almost 400 acres of land at the intersection of Hwy. 144 and Spur Hwy. 144 in Richmond Hill.

Right now the property is zoned A-5, or agricultural, and the request is to change it to a PUD zoning, or Planned Unit Development, according to the application the Department of Planning and Zoning has received.

"For the PUD application we filled out, all the plans are already in that," Murphy said. "The bulk of it is going to be residential, there’s very little commercial out that way. We do allow for a future convenience store, but it’s predominantly set up for residential, like the Buckhead area, with little pockets of neighborhoods. We hope to get started on it sometime in 2008."

Bryan County Zoning Administrator Christine Stringer could not be reached for additional information Tuesday afternoon. The Planning and Zoning Commissioners meeting is open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Richmond Hill Courthouse Annex. The file (Z#0112-07) is also available at the Department of Planning and Zoning in Richmond Hill.
