Self-defense training for women

SAVANNAH — The Armstrong Atlantic State University Police Department is offering a self-defense training class for women.
The training will be offered free of charge from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. March 23 on the Armstrong campus, 11935 Abercorn St. The deadline for registration is March 5. 
This class is a Rape Aggression Defense course that caters specifically to mothers and their teenage daughters.
RAD provides an opportunity for women to learn techniques for protecting themselves in unsafe, dangerous situations.
Armstrong’s course will include four certified instructors, and women of all skill levels are invited to participate.
The program promotes education and awareness of self-defense and includes lecture, discussion and physical techniques.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
