Lane closures tonight on I-95 in Chatham County

Drivers traveling on I-95 through Chatham County should expect lane closures tonight.

Georgia DOT will be installing nighttime lane closures on I-95 in a one-mile section between Highway 80/Exit 102 and Airways Avenue/Exit 104 in both directions from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. Law Enforcement will be on site to enhance safety.   

Contractors will be working on Pipe Maker Canal Bridge at milepost 103.4 on I- 95 utilizing lane closures for concrete patching on bridge joints at the approach slabs as part of I-95 bridge preservation project in Chatham County.

Whenever you approach a work zone: slow down; allow extra distance between vehicles; read signs; obey road crew flaggers; and expect the unexpected.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
