A Jacksonville, Florida, man, who had traveled to Richmond Hill to buy dogs, was killed when the pickup he was driving ran off Interstate 95 and rolled over Monday afternoon.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Robert Balkcom identified the victim as Byron Marshall, 52. A passenger who was injured has been identified as Terry Thomas, 42, also of Jacksonville. Thomas is the father of two boys, ages 5 and 7, who were also injured in the accident, Balkcom said.

The trooper said Marshall was driving a 1995 Chevrolet S-10 southbound on the interstate around 12:51 p.m. when he ran off the road at mile marker 70. According to Balkcom, the vehicle rolled over once, ejecting Marshall, and landed upright. The other passengers were not ejected. No one in the truck was wearing seat belts, the trooper said.

The survivors were helped out of the vehicle by passersby.

Thomas sustained broken bones and cuts, and the children sustained cuts and bruises. They were taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, where they are expected to recover.

Balkcom said the dogs were taken to Liberty County Animal Control.

Speed does not appear to have played a factor in the accident, which is under investigation, Balkcom said.
