A mid-morning collision Friday that caused one car to flip slowed westbound traffic on Hwy. 144 in Richmond Hill for nearly an hour after a pickup truck and car collided in front of Kroger.

And though the car flipped 180 degrees, the accident caused no injuries to either driver.

“Both vehicles were going very slowly – it was a very unusual accident,” Richmond Hill Police Cpl. Tim Saia said, adding both drivers were “very fortunate.”

Though the details of the accident were still being investigated this morning, Saia said Craig Basel was heading west in his sedan around 10 a.m. when the female driver of a red pickup truck pulled out of the Kroger parking lot and struck the rear of Basel’s car.

Basel, who was en route to Fort Stewart for work, said he swerved to miss the vehicle and hit the median, which caused his vehicle to slowly roll over.
