Bryan Public Safety Day is April 13

The Bryan County Fire Department and the South Bryan Volunteer Firefighters Association will host their 11th annual Public Safety Day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. April 13 at the First Baptist Church parking lot at 9184 Hwy 144 in Richmond Hill.
Area public-safety agencies will present programs and display their equipment and services. More than 25 agencies and organizations are expected.  
The Bryan County Fire Auxiliary will hold a silent-auction fundraiser the event. All proceeds from the auction will go toward the construction and maintenance of the Bryan County Firefighter & EMS Memorial.
The auxiliary also is seeking donations for the silent auction.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
