Firefighters from Bryan County Emergency Services and the city of Pembroke participated in the Southeast Georgia Health Systems Firefighter Challenge Bridge Run on Saturday in Brunswick to benefit their cancer programs.
The event was conducted on the Sidney Lanier Bridge, the tallest bridge in Georgia. Beginning on the south side of the bridge, participants had to run over the bridge and back, covering 3.1 miles. This year, the event featured nine teams from as far away as Kentucky. The fastest three participants’ times for each team are averaged to give the department its overall time.
The BCES team consisted of Chief Freddy Howell and firefighters Jon Andriotis, Kevin Rasch and Jonathan Rodriguez.
Pembroke’s team was made up of firefighters Matt Fleming, Paul Doyle and Hunter Morrison. Chief Peter Waters was on hand to encourage his firefighters.
After all nine teams had crossed the line, BCES finished sixth and Pembroke finished eighth.
