Accident near RHHS injures one

A two-vehicle accident Monday near Richmond Hill High School left one young man injured.

According to Richmond Hill Police Department Lt. Jason Sakelarios, the accident happened at Harris Trail Road and Wildcat Drive at about 5:20 p.m. Monday. A juvenile male driving an Acura was making a left turn from Wildcat Drive onto Harris Trail Road eastbound when a Chevy Suburban going westbound toward Highway 17 in the left lane near two other vehicles in the right lane struck the Acura.

The injured driver, whose name and age were not released, was airlifted to a Savannah hospital. He was reported to be in stable condition as of Monday evening.

The driver of the Suburban, a 34-year-old male, was not injured.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
