Pembroke took a step Monday night toward reestablishing the town's dormant recreation department.

City council members unanimously approved the hiring of a part-time recreation director at Monday's council meeting. The decision is part of a move which turns much of the operation of the town's teen center over to Bryan County Family Connection.

The two measures will cost the city about $22,000 total.
