Meeting time set to shift in March

Pembroke’s second Planning and Zoning meeting of the year is set to occur this Thursday, February 1 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

However, a calendar change will be made to Pembroke’s Planning and Zoning meetings this year.

Starting in March, Planning and Zoning meetings will occur on the 2nd Thursday of the month, coinciding with City Council meetings which occur on the 2nd Monday of the month. This change aims to help Pembroke residents who wish to participate in both City Council and Planning and Zoning meetings.

“It'll be more convenient for residents,” said Steve Scholar, the city of Pembroke’s Planning and Zoning consultant. Scholar has been working as a consultant with the city since April 2022.

This week’s Planning and Zoning meeting, according to an initial agenda, will concern a public hearing on a potential rezoning of a parcel of land on West Railroad St. from residential to commercial, as well as the addition of a manufactured home in Pembroke.

The Planning and Zoning commission is purely a recommending body, explained Scholar. All decisions made in meetings  ultimately go to the City Council for final review.

“Everything goes through [the] City Council,” Scholar said.
