A woman was killed and four people were injured around 1:30 a.m.
Friday when a tree fell onto northbound I-95 at mile marker 84, according to
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jamie Quinn.
The woman was driving in a Mercury Grand Marquis in the left hand lane when her car hit the tree. In all, nine vehicles were damaged from hitting the tree.
The woman, whose identity was not revealed, was one of two patients flown by helicopter to area hospitals. The condition of the others is unknown.
Quinn said as the tree began to fall, two cars in the left hand lane made it underneath before a tractor trailer hit the tree, causing extensive damage to the front of the cab and shattering its windshield.
It was then hit by the woman driving the Mercury and other vehicles.
Emergency personnel from the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office,
Richmond Hill Police Department, Richmond Hill Fire Department and Bryan County
Fire and Emergency Services were on hand to provide assistance.
Quinn said the accident is under investigation.
