Meeting canceled, but zoning issue awaits

The Richmond Hill City Council meeting Tuesday night was canceled due to a lack of agenda items, but the group will have to deal with a zoning matter inside The Ford Plantation eventually.
At issue is 28.5 acres in the Silk Hope Drive and Riceland Circle area that planners are looking to rezone.
The proposal had a first reading at the council’s Dec. 20 meeting and was on Tuesday’s agenda for approval or disapproval. If approved, the land would be rezoned to allow for smaller lot and home sizes and what landscape architects called a more “pastoral setting” with walking paths and benches.

An attorney representing current homeowners spoke out against the rezoning at the Dec. 20 meeting, saying the change would negatively impact the value of his clients’ property.

Assistant City Manager Scott Allison said at that meeting that city staff would continue to meet with the two sides to find a resolution.

The council is scheduled to meet next at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 at city hall.
