The cause of a fire that destroyed the cab of a semi-truck at the TA Travel Center on U.S. 17 at I-95 is still under investigation.

The fire began about 1 p.m. Sunday in the engine compartment as the driver pulled up to a gas pump to refuel, according to Richmond Hill Fire Chief Ralph Catlett.

Catlett said firefighters arrived on the scene within three minutes and used water and foam to extinguish the fire, but the cab was a complete loss. Employees inside the center were able to turn off the pumps using an emergency switch before the building was temporarily evacuated.
