A student trying to cross Harris Trail near Richmond Hill High School this morning was hit by a vehicle and later taken to the hospital, according to the Richmond Hill Police Department.

Capt. Jason Sakelarios of the RHPD said the student attempted to cross the street before the regular school crossing time and before the crossing guard was on duty. A report indicates the student slipped when he tried to stop for oncoming traffic and a vehicle ran over his foot.

Police said the driver stopped and got out of the vehicle and was told by the student he was OK. Sakelarios said a witness confirmed that the student said they were fine and that the student continued on to school.

Sakelarios indicated the student’s parents were later contacted after the student arrived at school.

A final report on the incident has not been filed.
