An accident Tuesday afternoon in Richmond Hill left a Fort Stewart soldier injured when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a tractor trailer just outside the gates of the installation on Highway 144 East.

Richmond Hill Police Department traffic Investigator First Sgt  Luke Harris said the accident occurred shortly after 5 pm.  The motorcyclist was heading eastbound as a tractor trailer was attempting to make a left turn into a service station and the motorcyclist hit the front of the rig.

According to Harris the soldier was transported by ambulance to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.  Harris who was supporting the Georgia State Patrol in the investigation could not provide the soldier's  condition other then the injures do not appear to be life threatening.

Traffic was backed up on the installation for more 30 minutes until officers rerouted the traffic onto the westbound lane.

The driver of the tractor trailer was cited by GSP in the accident.
