The Richmond Hill High School chorus was definitely not singing the blues after picking up some impressive hardware last month at the Music USA Festival in Orlando, Florida.

The women’s chorus took second place in their division and the advanced mixed chorus won first place in their division and the grand champion trophy for being the top group at the festival.

The women’s chorus sang “Come Let Us Start a Joyful Noise,” a 16th century madrigal, and a spiritual titled “Jordan’s Angels.” The advanced mixed chorus performed “The Seal Lullaby” and “Plaudite,” which is sung in Latin.

They were directed by Jamie Hillen, director of choral activities at Richmond Hill, and accompanied on piano by DaMarcus Patterson.

Hillen said students began working on the songs in January.
