A new traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 17 and Sommers Boulevard in Richmond Hill is set to become operational this week.

According to the state Department of Transportation, the signal will be in flash in a test mode beginning Thursday and fully operational by Tuesday, Oct. 23, if weather permits and testing goes well.

Motorists are reminded to pay special attention to traffic control devices, signs and posted speed limits to ensure safe passage through the new signal location.
