RICEBORO — A man was killed shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday at an Interstate Paper warehouse on Interstate Paper road in Riceboro.
According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jon Long, the man, a truck driver who was not an employee of Interstate Paper, was conducting business at the warehouse, where paper products are loaded. He apparently was caught between a truck and a loading device and sustained a fatal injury.
Liberty County Coroner Reginald Pierce said the victim, a North Carolinian in his 60s, sustained blunt-force trauma from the accident.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Long was unable to provide additional details, but said the body will be taken to a GBI crime lab for an autopsy.
Initial police-scanner traffic indicated the man was alive when emergency medical personnel arrived and attempted to revive him. A medical helicopter reportedly was en route when the man died.
