In order to find out exactly why the Richmond Hill City Council voted to remove him from the Planning and Zoning Commission, Stephen Weiss will go before the council at a public appeal hearing.
Weiss said Friday he received a letter stating an “appeal public hearing” has been scheduled at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 in City Hall. He decided to take advantage of the public hearing to find out why he is being let go.
“I think I need clarification about why the mayor thought it was so important to drop me from the commission,” Weiss said.
Weiss was discharged from the P&Z board by a 3-1 vote at the council’s Feb. 7 meeting. Mayor Harold Fowler read a resolution regarding the matter that stated a new commission member would be more responsive to the community and council.
Fowler originally asked Weiss to step down from the commission in January, but Weiss refused. Fowler’s authority to remove Weiss was questioned, and the matter was brought before the council for a vote.
