The annual Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival will not return to Richmond Hill this fall, according to the Bryan County Chamber Board of Directors.

Summer Beal, the President and CEO of Bryan County Chamber of Commerce, wrote in a statement Tuesday that the Chamber is focusing on “the needs of our membership, with retention, growth, and business programs in the forefront.”

However, a new event will be announced to replace the Festival, according to the statement.

“In the coming weeks, we will announce a new event scheduled for the fall of 2025. In the meantime, we want to express our sincere appreciation for your dedication and support that contributed to the success of the Great Ogeechee Music & Seafood Festival. We will keep you informed about our upcoming programs and sponsorship opportunities in future events this year,” said Beal.

The Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, and had become a well-known attraction for locals and visitors alike. The festival featured live music, food, arts & crafts, and a variety of amusement rides and games for families.

The vote to defer the decision for 30 days to look into concerns raised by opponents to the project came after several residents – including parents of children buried in the 195-year-old cemetery – urged commissioners to deny the rezoning.
