Cox ready to serve
swear-Bill-Cox

Bill Cox began his first term as Bryan County coroner on Jan. 1.

This is the second time he ran for the position. Cox got beat by Danny Page four years ago, losing by a mere 100 votes. Page decided not to run this year, and Cox ran unopposed.

Cox, who runs Richmond Hill Funeral Home, is a third-generation funeral director who has worked in the industry for 24 years, since he was 18.

As county coroner, he must now be on-call 24-7 for unattended deaths and accidents in the county. It is also his responsibility to pronounce death.

Cox said all this will certainly increase the demand on his time, but he is up to the challenge.

"My dad was coroner for Decatur County for 32 years, and I’ve always wanted to follow in his footsteps," Cox said. "My family has been in politics all my life, and I consider this a great honor. I am also looking forward to working with deputy coroners Susan Clark and Tommy Flanders."
