During a special called meeting Thursday night, the Richmond Hill City Council announced that the external search for the Police Chief has been suspended. 

Cary Hill will continue to serve as the interim chief for Richmond Hill Police Department as he is evaluated for the role.  

At the meeting, Hill said he was honored with the position and has felt welcomed since he came to Richmond Hill and wants to see the community grow in a positive direction for the future.

"I've seen a support system that I have not seen since coming to Richmond Hill," Hill said. "As the city is growing, we have to build the department and mirror that. There's nothing we can't do together."

Mayor Cox gave Hill high praise for his leadership skills since assuming the position.

"Hill has maintained operational stability because of his proven track record," Mayor Cox said. "We have decided to focus on evaluating Chief Hill for the position for the coming months."
