Former Richmond Hill City Center Director Andrea Powers has been appointed general manager of a conference center in Shelby, N.C.
Kristin Kurie, president of that Charleston-based Wilderman Group that also manages the City Center, announced the appointment of Powers to oversee day-to-day operations at the LeGrand Center, a new multi-use, 44,000-square-foot facility. Powers assumes responsibility for the center’s sales, marketing, food, housekeeping and facility maintenance, catering and conference services, audio/visual and technology and environmental-sustainability program,  among other duties.
Kurie said that Powers, who also served as the City Center’s sales director, was an asset to its recent successes that led to a contract renewal for The Wilderman Group with the city of Richmond Hill to continue to manage the facility.
“Andrea is responsible for very a strong year at Richmond Hill City Center, and her commitment and drive helped the property come in under budget for the year,” Kurie said.
Powers has more than 10 years’ experience in hospitality and has worked in a variety of segments of hotel management.  Her experience includes positions with Wyndham, Holiday Inn, LaQuinta, several boutique hotels and as hotel manager for Clipper Cruise Lines. She holds a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism management from Purdue University.
