Area road work scheduled for this week

Georgia Department of Transportation continues to improve highway infrastructure throughout Southeast Georgia. Major projects of interest that will likely impact traffic this week, through Saturday, Jan. 25 are listed below.
 
All work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, pay attention and watch for workers.
 
Lane closures are listed below by interstates and counties.
 
Interstate 95 --
I-95 from Hwy 17/Richmond Hill to Hwy 17/South Newport. Double lane closure to install permanent striping on bridges. Monday through Sunday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
 
Belfast Keller Rd. Interchange --
I-95 double lane closure for bridge demolition. Monday through Sunday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Interstate 16 --
I-16 Candler/Emanuel Countyline to SR 67 Overpass in Bulloch County.  Single lane closure for striping of roadway. Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 Bryan County --
SR 144-Widening Project.  Rabbit Hill road closure. Detour via Rabbit Hill Rd. to Port Royal Road

Chatham County -- 
SR 25 Conn/West Bay Street.  Continuous traffic shift on westbound outside lane
 
US 17 from Blossom Rd. to Red Gate Farm Rd. Lane closures Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Underground and aerial work.

US 80 lane closures Evergreen Ave. to Wallin St. Lane closures from 4th St. to Coach Joe Turner St. Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Underground and aerial work.

Decision on potential Parkers’ Kitchen location delayed

Bryan County Commissioners on Tuesday night deferred a decision on whether to rezone some 3.8 acres near the historic Burnt Church Cemetery to allow a Parker’s Kitchen convenience store. The vote to defer the decision for 30 days to look into concerns raised by opponents to the project came after several residents – including parents of children buried in the 195-year-old cemetery – urged commissioners to deny the rezoning.
