Weekly FMWR briefing for March 17-23

You can help make the Extreme 5K Color Run around Holbrook Outdoor Recreation Area a success.

Volunteers are needed from 7 a.m.-noon April 5 to help with set-up, parking, sign-up, color throwing stations and clean-up. To find out more, e-mail Courtney Cameron at Courtney.cameron@us.army.mil or call 767-6212.

Also, registration for runners is under way. It costs $20 per person until March 24 and $30 after that.

 

Track renovation  

Quick Track, across from Newman Fitness Center, is closed for renovations. It is scheduled to reopen by May 17. For additional information, call 767-8326.

 

Characters Corkan

Kids, meet and take a picture with your favorite characters during our meet and greet at Corkan Plaza’s Adventure Golf from 9:30-11:30 a.m. March 29.

Dora the Explorer, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Cinderella, Snow White, Tiana (Frog Princess) and Scooby Doo are expected.

The cost is $1 per child ages 1-15. Kids 16 and older are free. For more information, call 767-1791.  

 

Softball league

Companies interested in proving who has the best softball team on Stewart/Hunter should submit a memo to the Bennett Sports Complex on Stewart or Squires Sports Complex at Hunter by April 11.

Play begins April 21, with games at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday. For more information, call 767-8238 or 315-4160.

 

CG's golf scramble

You’re invited to play in Maj. Gen. Mike Murray’s four-person scramble March 28 at Hunter Golf Course. The start time has been changed to 8 a.m.

The $35 per person cost includes golf cart, driving range and prizes. Players are asked to register by March 27.

Lt. Dan Band concert

Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will be in concert at 5 p.m. April 6 on Donovan Field.

The free concert event is presented by the USO in partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation. Bring your own seating.

Pets, smoking, grills, coolers, glass bottles and weapons are prohibited. Vendors will be on-site.

 

Lifting competition    

Are you the best in power lifting or bench press? Find out April 12 in “The Rock” Power Lifting and Bench Press Competition at Newman Fitness Center. Weigh-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and the competition at 10:15.

Contestants will be placed in different weight classes and must complete a bench press to qualify for an award. Each competitor will attempt three lifts. The highest overall weight will determine class winners.

Awards will be presented to the top lifters. 

Registration until March 28 is $10. The fee is $15 March 29-April 12.

Post-wide garage sale

Registration now for the Great FMWR Post-Wide Housing Garage Sale 8 a.m.-2 p.m. April 12 on Stewart and Hunter.

There is no charge to sell. Registration ensures your site is mapped for shoppers.

Only residents of post housing are eligible to sell, but everyone, including civilians, can shop.

Residents interested should call the Stewart Sports Office at 767-8238 or Hunter’s Tominac Fitness Center at 315-5078.

 

Babysitting course

Teens can become certified babysitters by at a SKIES CYSSitter Teenage Babysitter Course from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. April 14 and 15.

The course is free and will be held at SKIES Unlimited on Davis Avenue. A minimum of five students is needed, and participants must attend both days to become certified.

Register at CYSS Parent Central Services. The course will be offered later too.

Hog hunt  

Registration is under way for soldiers and retirees to participate, along with Gold Star Family members (12 and older) and Purple Heart recipients, in a managed hog hunt April 19 on Stewart.

Register at Stewart or Hunter Pass & Permit Offices by March 31. Participants will be chosen by lottery April 2. Cost is $10 per person, if selected.

Steve Nichols and Trey Wetherington of the "Huntin' is Good!" will be there.
