Garrison commander’s golf scramble

Get into the holiday spirit with some birdies and pars. Garrison Commander Col. Kevin Gregory’s Jingle Bells Scramble is Dec. 14 at Taylors Creek Golf Course on Fort Stewart.

Registration continues until Dec. 12. The scramble begins at 10 a.m. Play is limited to the first 25 four-person teams. The cost is $35 per active duty, retiree, Army civilian and Taylors Creek or Hunter Club members. It's $45 per civilian guest.

Taylors Creek driving range

Golfers now can fine-tune their swing at Taylors Creek Golf Course even if the pro shop is not open. New driving range e-keys are available for discounted range balls that will save customers up to 30 percent.

With the e-keys, you no longer need to get range balls from the shop. Get  balls from a machine on the range with your e-key.

Holiday hayrides

Holiday decorations will transform the Holbrook Pond Recreation Area off Highway 144 into a yuletide fun land from 6-8 p.m. Dec.14 and 15. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there.

Hayrides will make a 20-min trip through decorated trails around Holbrook Pond.

The fun won’t be limited to the rides. A decorated boat will shuttle passengers across Holbrook Pond from the parking area. A FMWR Kiddie Train will delight youngsters, and patrons can watch movies under the stars, roast marshmallows and make s’mores.

The cost is $5 per family or $1 per person. A concession stand will have hotdogs, funnel cakes, chips, cookies and drinks for sale.

Holbrook will remain decorated through Dec. 26 for free drive-throughs 6-8 p.m.

Holiday movie outside

“Donkey’s Christmas Shrektacular” will be the Holiday Movie Under the Stars from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 15 at Hunter Army Airfield's Hallstrom Lake.

The PG movie will be showing while marshmallow roasting and s'more making will be going on around a fire. During the movie, guests can buy popcorn and hot chocolate. There is no charge to attend.

Holiday lodging available

Expecting out-of-town guests for Christmas or New Year’s?

Army Lodging at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield can help. Both facilities have double and single rooms available. All that is needed is a valid military ID card to reserve the room and a credit card to guarantee it.

Bowling with Santa or elves

Bowl, and have your picture taken with Santa or one of his helpers from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 15 at Hunter Lanes. The cost is $1 per game and $1 shoe rental. For information, call 315-6279.

Golf 4 Life

Golf 4 Life clinics at Hunter Golf Club are set for 9-10 a.m. on Dec. 15, Jan. 12 and Feb. 9.

The free clinics are an opportunity to fine tune your golf game or for beginners to learn about the game. They cover all areas of golf and are open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring a friend.

Brunch with Santa

Old St. Nick himself will be the guest of honor at a Brunch with Santa at the Club Stewart Ballroom and Thunder Run from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 16.

Retirees and civilians are invited.

Stations will full omelettes and bourbon glazed ham. The buffet will feature Southern breakfast items, beef Wellington, English cut cod and chef’s selections of side dishes. There also will be a dessert and coffee bar.

Advance tickets cost $14.95 for adults and $6.45 for children. Tickets at the door will be $17.95 for adults and $7.45 for children. Children 4 and under are free. For information, call 368-2212.

Photo contest extended

The entry deadline for the 2012 Wildlife Photo Contest for amateur photographers at Fort Stewart and Hunter has been extended.

Entries must be turned in to a Pass and Permit Office on Stewart or Hunter by Dec. 31. Entry fees are $5 per photo (ages 4-15) and $10 per photo (16 and older).

Hunter Basketball Leaguer

The start of 2012-13 company-level basketball league season, originally scheduled Nov. 6, has been changed to Jan. 9.

Companies interested in playing need to submit a letter of intent to play to Squires Sports Office, Bldg. 1460 by Dec 21. Games are Monday-Thursday, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Tominac Fitness Center. For details, call 315-4160.

 

Aerobic-thon and health fair

If you are looking for ways to stay fit, the Aerobic-Thon and Health Fair from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Jan. 12 at Newman Fitness Center may be it.

You can sample various aerobic classes taught by certified instructors with different fitness backgrounds. Styles include kick-boxing, step, zumba, line dancing, pilates and more. 

There will also be fitness assessments including body fat measurement, nutritional information, President’s Challenge registration and health screenings.

Soldiers, retirees, family members and civilians are invited to the free fair.
